Abdominal Pain Causes

Laxatives & B-12

While laxatives provide short-term relief of constipation, using them regularly can be detrimental to your health. The use of laxatives can interfere with the proper absorption of nutrients, such as vitamin B-12, which is necessary for the proper formation of red blood cells, DNA synthesis, and tissue and cell repair. If laxatives interfere with B-12 absorption, it can cause a deficiency in the water-soluble vitamin.
