Large pores on the face can be unsightly and troublesome, and they can also cause the skin to be excessively oily which can lead to breakouts and skin irritation. Pore size is generally hereditary, so there is not a lot you can do to permanently shrink the pores. However, with a few ingredients from the kitchen, you can help tone and tighten the skin, reduce excess oil and reduce the appearence of large pores.
Sugar
Cane sugar contains glycolic acid, which is the same ingredient found in many expensive store-bought products made to exfoliate the skin. Exfoliating helps remove dead skin cells from the skin's surface, deep clean the pores and help reduce their appearance. In addition, the grain of the sugar helps to increase circulation at the skin's surface, encouraging cellular renewal and improving the skin's overall radiance. Mix a tbsp. of pure cane sugar with 2 tbsp. of honey or olive oil and gently massage onto facial skin in a circular, upward motion. Be careful not to scrub the skin as that can cause damage and excess oiliness. Rinse with cool water.
Honey
Honey is packed with nutrients and antioxidants that are essential to the vitality of the skin. Honey also helps to tone and tighten the skin and reduce oiliness. Apply unprocessed, raw honey to the face once or twice a week as a mask. Allow the honey to sit on the face for 20 to 30 minutes and then rinse with cool water.
Clay
Clay is one of the best treatments for large pores and oily skin, and it's inexpensive and widely available online and in health food stores. Clay sucks impurities from deep within the pores and then encourages the pores to close. Clay also increases circulation at the skin's surface, encouraging cellular renewal and healthy, glowing skin. Mix 3 tbsp. of bentonite or seaweed clay with enough water to form a thick paste. Smooth on the the skin in a thick layer and allow to dry. You will feel a tingling and tightening sensation as the clay dries. Rinse with cool water and pat the skin dry.
