After enduring years of clowns, magic shows and petting zoos, your teen now wants to do something cooler for his birthday where he won't be embarrassed to bring his friends. The diverse music scene and variety of teen-centric activity locations give Memphis teens a chance to have a birthday party that they will treasure well into their adulthood.
Golf & Games
Golf & Games offers a variety of birthday party packages that are sure to please any teen, including access to the facilities, pizza, soda and goodie bags for guests. Located on Summer Avenue, Golf & Games offers miniature golf, go-karts, bumper boats and batting cages. Birthday guests can also participate in Laser Tag in Golf & Games' 6,000 square foot, two-level arena where teens can go up and down ramps and duck behind pillars and arches to avoid getting shot while music is playing. The Lasertron Birthday Party Package includes 30 minutes of Lasertron, 30 continuous minutes of arcade game playing, goodie bags and a round of miniature golf. Golf & Games also features the Sky Trail Ropes course, which is a series of obstacles made from horizontally strung cables, ropes and boards, as well as a virtual roller coaster.
Sky Zone is an indoor trampoline center located on the Distriplex Farms Drive Suite. The center features numerous trampolines, including angled trampolines that enable energetic teens to bounce off the walls. All participants must sign waivers before they begin jumping. Teens can participate as part of a birthday package that includes at least one hour of jump time, pizza, soda and add-ons like temporary tattoos, T-shirts or backpacks. Another option is for them to participate in 3-D Dodgeball for teens 16 and older, a game in which players dodge, duck and jump over balls that other teens pelt at them, as well as from balls bouncing off the trampoline walls.
For teen jocks, a birthday party package for 10 is available to see the Memphis Grizzlies in action. The package includes 10 Terrace-Level game seats, sodas, nachos and souvenir hats. The birthday boy or girl also receives a gift certificate for the souvenir shop and recognition on the scoreboard at the FedEx Forum. Parents can check out the tickets and packages available at NBA.com. Tickets are subject to availability and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
For teens who want to crawl through outdoor fields in a jungle setting, canyon or alien invasion in a quest to beat another team in a game of paintball, Memphis' Paintball Park is the place to go. Teens pick one of the fields to play on and may choose to incorporate a field, based on the theme of their party. Birthday party packages are available for groups of 10 or more and include a paintball marker, mask, hopper and air tank. Reservations should be made at least one week in advance, and all participants must complete a sign-in sheet, including a waiver before they get started.
Backbeat Tours provides teens and families with an intimate look at Memphis’ most distinctive features. The Memphis Mojo Tour takes teens on a music bus, in which musicians sing and play during the 90-minute tour. Participants go to Sun Studio, where Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash got their start. They also see the Lorraine Motel where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. They visit the early homes of Elvis, B.B. King and Johnny Cash. Teens will enjoy driving on Beale Street, the center of Memphis entertainment, outdoor musicians and occasional music festivals, and can see where B.B. King, Louis Armstrong, and jazz and blues musicians have played. The Memphis Walking Ghost Tour takes you to a Victorian-era mansion rumored to be haunted by lovers. People report that they see paranormal phenomena at least weekly at the Potonoc Hotel, and it is rumored that a ghost has haunted the Orpheum Theatre since 1921. The Orpheum Theatre, built in 1890, features Broadway plays, including "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Cats." Teens who are Elvis enthusiasts will have a chance to visit the King's home during the four-hour Graceland Tour. The Graceland Tour starts at 10 a.m. and is available between March and October. Advance reservations are required.
