Women come in a myriad of body shapes and sizes. From a fashion perspective, there is more to know about your body than how much you weigh and what size you wear. In fact, one of the essential components to dressing your figure is understanding what type you have and what clothing accentuates it best. For those with a long torso, there are a host of flattering fashion options available.

Tops

Since a long torso has a lot of space between the bottom of the bust-line to the top of the hip, you want to select tops that add dimension and the illusion of curves. Therefore, tops that feature cinched waists, belts, peplums and ruching are the styles that complement your lengthy torso best. Alternatively, you can also opt for tops that have bold prints or patterns because they also create the illusion of curves and a more balanced torso area. Coats and jackets follow these same rules, making trench coats and those with belts or tapered waists ideal. A v-neck is a strategic way to shift the focus away from your torso area and put the emphasis on your upper half.

Bottoms

When it comes to dressing the bottom half of a long torso anything with a high waist is helpful. High-waisted pants, jeans, skirts and shorts conceal the reality of your long torso and bring the focus up higher. Additionally, if you add a belt to these bottom styles you will create an even more balanced look to your long frame. Wearing tops and blouses that are tucked in is also a flattering way to dress your figure because it serves to outline your shape and create curves.

Dresses

Dresses are a type of garment that you want to ensure fits your body shape perfectly. The dress styles that best serve your frame are those that equally create curves and add balance. Sheath, A-line, wrap, shirt, body-con and peplum dress styles all look fabulous on your long torso. As with tops and bottoms, adding a belt to any of these dresses provides an additional flattering aspect to your figure.

Skirts

Selecting skirts for your long torso follows similar rules to those of a dress in that the goal is to create curves and add balance. Pencil, A-line, trumpet, high-lo hems and midi styles are all skirt cuts that work wonders for your long torso; some will conceal it while others will balance it out. Skirts with texture, detailing, embellishments and patterns are also specifics you should try to incorporate to create depth and curves.
