If you want to hit your golf shots farther, make sure you've honed your swing and that you're not undermining your efforts by addressing the ball improperly or striking the ball with anything other than the sweet spot on the club face. Standing too close to the ball, or having the ball too far back in your stance, can take yards off your shots. And "topping" the ball (often the result of not keeping your head down) will obviously keep you from making long drives and fairway shots.
Tee It Up High
To get more distance off the tee, Les Miller, a contributor to GolfInstruction.com, recommends teeing the ball up a little higher and adjusting your stance so the ball is aligned closer to the inside of your front foot to strike the ball on the upswing.
Rotate
The staff at OCGolfcourse.com recommends to turn your hips back during your backswing and then around the front as you follow through. Power comes from the rotational torque of your body, and you may find it easier to make good contact if your body is turning easily throughout your shot.
Practice With a Weighted Club
Just as baseball players warm up in the on-deck circle with "donuts" around their bats, golfers can also benefit from practicing a few swings with a weighted club before using their actual club on a shot. The idea is that because power is generated by the speed of your swing (in baseball as in golf), you'll be able to swing faster if your muscles have gotten used to swinging a heavier club. Medicus Golf recommends doing this "religiously" to quickly improve your swing speed and distance.
