At the end of a hard day, our feet are tired and often overlooked. Feet can become dry and cracked and develop rough skin. It shouldn’t cost a small fortune to renew our feet. Luckily, there are home remedies to give your feet the special treatment that they need.

Soak, Scrub, Clip and File

The Beauty Online website recommends filling your bathtub or a small bowl with hot water and add your favorite bath salts, bubble bath or soap. Sink your feet into the water and allow them to soak for 10 to 15 minutes. Once your foot skin has softened from the warm foot soak, scrub off excess dead skin with a pumice stone. Use caution when scrubbing off excess dead skin, as being too rough can rip the skin. After removing excess dead skin, focus on your toenails. Use a clipper to trim toenails, and then use a file to shape and buff them. Cutting nails too short can cause painful ingrown nails, so use caution. Apply a good foot lotion, cream or moisturizer to rejuvenate dry skin. For an added touch, polish your toenails with your favorite color.

Exfoliating Foot Paste

"Hilary" magazine recommends making an exfoliating foot paste by dropping a quarter cup of either almonds or hazelnuts into a coffee grinder or blender and grinding them until they are coarsely ground. Next, mix together two tbsp. of honey, three tbsp. of cocoa butter and a quarter cup of dry oatmeal with the coarsely ground nuts until it makes a thick, wet paste. After you have mixed all ingredients together, apply the paste to your feet and leave it on overnight. Cover your feet with thick socks to prevent the mixture from contaminating your bed sheets. Rinse off the paste in the morning. "Hilary" says this exfoliating foot paste will rejuvenate tired, dry feet.

Soothing Ointment

To create a soothing foot ointment, SpaIndex.com recommends mixing one tsp. of Aloe Vera, one tbsp. of olive oil, one tsp. of wheat germ oil and a combination of 20 drops of eucalyptus essential oil with 20 drops of peppermint essential oil. Once you have everything mixed together, you can massage the ointment into your feet or create a foot soak by adding the mixture to very warm water and soaking your feet. If you’re using the mixture as an ointment, lightly dust your feet with cornstarch after applying the solution to your feet.
