You probably have everything you need to make a spa scrub right in your kitchen. You need the scrub ingredient, which can be sugar or sea salt, and you need a skin cleansing agent and nourishing agent. The Grand Spa at the Grand Hyatt in Dubai uses several kitchen ingredients in their body scrubs, from strawberries, which act as an astringent in their "de-stressing" body scrub, to pumpkin, which is used in their "anti-aging" scrub. Pumpkin contains many antioxidant vitamins as well as zinc and alpha-hydroxy acids, which help exfoliate the skin, making it an effective spa scrub to make at home.
Step 1
Puree 1/2 cup of pumpkin in a blender. You can use pumpkin from a can or fresh pumpkin, but do not use pumpkin pie filling, as this has other ingredients with it and is not pure pumpkin.
Step 2
Transfer the pumpkin to a bowl. Add 1/2 cup of brown or raw sugar, 2 tbsp. of olive or almond oil, 2 tbsp. of coffee grounds and the juice of a fresh lemon.
Step 3
Mix all of the ingredients together until they are well blended.
Step 4
Stand in the shower, or bathe, in hot water to open your pores. Apply the scrub to your body, paying special attention to rough areas such as elbows and feet. Rinse well.
Tips and Warnings
- Extra unused scrub can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.
- If you experience itchiness or redness when using the pumpkin scrub, rinse off immediately and discontinue use. Instead, experiment with other fillers such as strawberries or cucumbers.
