The Olympics are as much about the human stories behind the world's elite athletes as they are about their physical prowess.
The weightlifter whose trip was financed through GoFundMe.
The 42-year-old runner returning to give himself one last shot at gold.
The gymnast who has a crush on a big Hollywood movie star and goes on a talk show where the exuberant host takes gleeful pleasure in pointing out said crush.
Team USA gold medalist Simone Biles has been exchanging flirty posts on Twitter with her crush, "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising" star Zac Efron ― much to the delight of fans and, presumably, Ellen DeGeneres, who started this whole business back in March.
"You have a crush on a really good guy," DeGeneres said, encouraging the 19-year-old gymnast on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on March 6. DeGeneres noted that Efron had a girlfriend and gave Biles a leotard printed with photo after photo of the actor's face.
Since then, Efron has been in touch.
And Biles has been super excited.
@ZacEfron Thanks Zac! I hope you can watch Team Final tomorrow night.— Simone Biles (@Simone_Biles) August 9, 2016
It all came to a head this week when Biles and her teammates killed it at the Olympics in Rio, taking the group gold on August 9.
In the words of famed philosopher Emmet Brickowoski, "everything is awesome" for Simone Biles.
What Do YOU Think?
How psyched are we for Biles? Not just the crush thing ― nice work, Efron ― but, you know, winning gold and all. Let us know in the comments!
