Pop the Champagne and bring on the balloons. It’s the triumph story you rarely hear: “I gained weight!”

While most fitness coverage focuses on losing weight, there are those on the opposite end of the spectrum determined to add muscle mass, or “good weight.” And that’s just the goal this dedicated couple from the Philippines recently achieved.

Patricia Ramos and her partner Juan have been together for nearly eight years. In 2013, the couple set out on a mission to hit the gym hard and bulk up. In those three years, Patricia gained 16 pounds of muscle and Juan gained 25. Way to go!

Along the way, the two took their fitness efforts to the next level by getting into competition shape — and winning! Patricia was crowned the 2016 Arnold Classic Asia junior bikini champion.

Keeping her journey transparent, Patricia wants her followers to know that transformations aren’t as easy as they appear on Instagram.

“‘Fitness’ is rarely as poised and coiffed as it is portrayed, and most people don’t like to hear how much work it can be to make a significant transformation, but never forget that small progress every day will eventually lead to something bigger,” she wrote in one of her posts.

How cute are they? Whether gaining or losing weight, hurdles are always easier when done together with a friend or loved one. 2017 is right around the corner, so it’s time to start drafting those New Year’s resolutions and selecting your accomplice.
