Coffee contains a compound called caffeic acid, which is reported in the December 2008 issue of the "Korean Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology" to have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and wound healing benefits, as well as the ability to stimulate collagen cells, which help keep the skin firm and smooth. So don't throw away those coffee grounds---turn them into a body scrub instead.

Step 1

Brew a pot of coffee. For best results, you should use the coffee grounds within 20 minutes of brewing them.

Step 2

Put 3 tbsp. of coffee grounds in a bowl. Add 1 tbsp. of sea salt and 1 tbsp. of olive or almond oil. Mix the ingredients until they are well blended.

Step 3

Stand under a hot, steaming shower. Do this before applying the scrub to your body, as this will relax your skin and open your pores.

Step 4

Apply the scrub to your body with deep, circular movements, making sure to reach the sides and back of your body to improve blood flow and promote circulation. Then rinse thoroughly.

Tips and Warnings

  • Instead of sea salt, you can add raw sugar if you prefer.
  • Coffee scrubs can darken skin over time if used repeatedly.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 tbsp. coffee grounds
  • Bowl
  • 1 tbsp. sea salt
  • 1 tbsp. olive or almond oil
