Exercises for Toning Inner Thighs

Most people who want to tone and reduce their thighs tend to do isolated, resistance exercises that focus on one body part, such as leg extensions, leg curls and hip adduction (for inner thighs). This method, however, actually stimulates the muscles to increase in size, which results in bigger thighs. To firm up your inner thighs―or any part of your body―you must perform full-body exercises that burn calories and build lean muscles. It is also important to eat a balanced, reduced-calorie diet.

Leg Circuit

The leg circuit comprises four exercises that strength-train and empower the lower body. Athletes often use this drill to prepare them to lift heavy weights, jump higher or as a warm-up. The drill uses every muscle in your hips and legs, helping to burn many calories without bulking your legs up.
The four exercises are body-weight squats, step-ups, front lunges and vertical jumps. These four are done with very little or no rest in between. When you finish one round of exercises, that completes one circuit. Rest for 30 seconds between circuits.
In the squats, your butt should be lower than your knee height, with your spine in neutral. For step-ups, the step should be as high as your knee or higher. The stride of the lunge should be between half your height and your full height. For jumps, you may swing your arms up as you jump or place them on your hips to emphasize your hips and legs.

Sprint Drills

Sprinting is an anaerobic exercise that helps you get leaner because of its high-intensity nature, which raises your metabolism quickly to help burn fat and stored carbohydrates. It also helps increase short-distance speed and adds variety to your daily workouts.
A basic sprint would be to run at top speed in a straight line for a certain distance. You can start at 50 yards, then increase the distance gradually by 10 yards when a certain distance becomes relatively easy. It is important to warm up properly before sprinting so you don't strain a calf, tendon or leg muscle from the high stress.

Full-Body Aerobics

When combined with anaerobic exercises, full-body aerobics can help slim down your body, including your inner thighs. Choose activities that require you to be in an upright position or to use your entire body, such as running, jogging, hiking and swimming. If you find these exercises boring and repetitive, you can try aerobic classes, such as Zumba, cardio-kickboxing or dance classes, including hip-hop, salsa and Brazilian samba. The best exercise is the one you enjoy doing the most and stick to.
