Advair (fluticasone and salmeterol) is a medication used in the treatment of asthma. It reduces inflammation in the airways and helps dilate (widen) the airways. Advair is used to prevent asthma attacks and prevent flare-ups or worsening of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) associated with chronic bronchitis and/or emphysema, Drugs.com says.
Headache and Dizziness
These side effects may diminish over time as your body adjusts to your medication. You should use caution while driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how this medication will affect you. You may treat a headache with acetaminophen or ibuprofen as per your physician's consent. If headache and dizziness persist or worsen, contact your health care provider. It may be a sign of something unrelated to your medication.
Throat Irritation and Hoarseness
This occurs due to the inhalation of medication into the throat. You may also experience dry mouth, nose, or throat, reports Drugs.com. Remain hydrated and carry lozenges or mints with you to help alleviate throat dryness and irritation. If these symptoms become bothersome, speak to your physician.
Nausea and Vomiting
These effects may lessen over time as your body adjusts to Advair. Eating smaller meals more frequently and avoiding spicy foods may help combat gastrointestinal discomfort. Severe vomiting may put you at risk for dehydration. Drink an adequate amount of fluids and contact your doctor if vomiting does not subside.
Stuffy Nose, Sinus Pain, Cough
If these symptoms worsen and you experience a yellow- or green-tinged mucus with fever, you may have an infection that needs to be treated.
Allergic Reaction
In rare cases, an allergic reaction can occur while using Advair. Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs, says Drugs.com: hives; difficulty breathing; and swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat.
