1. Take Your Medication
You'll be prescribed painkillers and antibiotics when you leave the surgeon's office, so be sure to take them. You'll experience moderate discomfort in the days immediately following your vaginoplasty, and the painkillers will take care of that for you. As with any surgery, there's a risk of infection of the wound as it heals, and the antibiotics will greatly reduce this risk.<
2. No Sex
You'll have to refrain from sex for two to six weeks following your vaginoplasty. Having sex too soon can tear your incision and loosen the muscles that were tightened by the surgery. Your doctor will tell you exactly how long you have to wait before you have sex, but it's typically until the incision fully heals.
3. Rest, Even If You Think You Don't Need It
Rest is another critical component of you recovery from vaginoplasty. While some people find that they can go back to work immediately following the surgery (and this is only for people with sedentary jobs), most people require at least a few days to recover. It's common to get the surgery on a Friday, rest over the weekend, and then go back to work on Monday. If you have a more strenuous job, you may be out longer. No strenuous activities are allowed at all for three to four weeks following a vaginoplasty. You should avoid lifting heavy objects for at least a month. For the first two to three days following your vaginoplasty, get someone else to do your household chores, including watching your children. You should be sitting as much as possible and relaxing, in order to give your body a chance to heal.
