Red clover is a plant found primarily in meadow and prairie regions where water drainage is poor. It is widely used for livestock grazing in parts of Europe, Asia and North America. It's also used to treat people for numerous conditions, including cancer, respiratory problems, skin inflammation, eczema and psoriasis, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. It can come in several forms depending on your purpose and intended use.
Step 1
Steep 1 or 2 teaspoons of dried red clover flowers or flowering tops for 30 minutes in 8 ounces of hot water. Strain and drink two to three cups daily to enjoy the overall benefits of red clover, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Tea is an effective way to treat a cough because of the steam given off.
Step 2
Take 40 to 160 milligrams of powdered red herb in capsule form daily. Oral consumption of red clover can be used to treat menopause, osteoporosis, cancer, or to promote cardiovascular health, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Step 3
Use 60 to 100 drops of red clover tincture three times daily to enjoy the benefits of this herb mentioned above. If desired, you can also add the tincture dosage to hot water to make a red clover tea, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Step 4
Take 1 mL of a 1-to-1 ratio fluid extract of red clover three times daily. As with the tincture, you can also add this to hot water to consume this red clover supplement as a tea.
Step 5
Use red clover topically as a liquid extract or ointment containing 10 to 15 percent clover flowerheads; apply as needed for skin inflammation, psoriasis or eczema until your condition improves.
