Bringing a new baby home from the hospital can be one of the most exciting times in a family's life. Dreams of holding, loving and feeding the baby are usually the thoughts that are at the forefront of the parents' thoughts. Little thought is given to the inevitable diaper changes after holding and feeding the baby. The baby's parents need a place to store the dirty diapers without making the baby's room smell like the bottom of a diaper pail until they can take the diapers to the trash can outside.

Step 1

Take off the removable lid of your Diaper Genie to install the plastic liners.

Step 2

Put the liner cartridge onto the pail's top, pull the top part of the liner up and out, tie it in a knot and push the knot down into the opening of the removable lid.

Step 3

Wrap the dirty diaper up during your baby's diaper change, open the lid of the Diaper Genie and push the diaper into the opening in the middle of the removable lid. Twist your hand two to four times as you push the diaper down.

Step 4

Pull your hand back out and finish putting a clean diaper on your baby.

Step 5

Push an additional length of plastic liner down into the removable lid, then twist the cutter clockwise--from left to right--to cut the liner so you can remove the bagged diapers when the Diaper Genie is full. You only do this step once you're ready to take out dirty diapers that have already been bagged in the Genie's liner, when the pail is full.

Step 6

Pull the liner up, tie the top in a secure knot and push it down past the seal in the removable lid. Flip the Diaper Genie over, open the bottom and take the length of discarded diapers and throw them in the trash.

Step 7

Turn the Diaper Genie back over, pull the liner up, tie a new knot and push that knot back into the opening of the removable pail as you did when you prepared it for the first diaper.

Tips and Warnings

  • Give your Diaper Genie a sanitizing cleaning once per month by using a solution of warm water, bleach and detergent on a monthly basis. Mix up 2 cups of water, 1/4 cup of bleach and three drops of detergent in a bucket. Wet a cloth, squeeze it out and scrub the interior of the Diaper Genie. Dry with a length of paper towel.
  • When changing your baby's diaper, make sure you place your hand on his torso as you bend down to push the used diaper into the Diaper Genie. You ensure he won't flip over and fall off the bed or changing table this way.
