The time-consuming process of breaking in a goalie glove is important if you want to get the most use out of your gloves. Also known as trappers, gloves are, arguably, the most crucial piece of equipment that a goalie wears. By breaking in the trapper, it allows the goaltender to maximize his movement of the glove and gives him the best chance to stop the puck.
Step 1
Wear your goalie glove as often as possible when not in a game. Wear it during practice and around the house. Constantly open and close the glove.
Step 2
Play catch with a friend or family member. Have her toss a ball or a puck at the glove, and attempt to catch it. This will help the glove develop crease marks, which make it easier to shut.
Step 3
Wear the glove while watching a hockey game. Whenever there is a stoppage in play, open and close the glove until the game starts again. This will not only help break in the glove, but it will also strengthen your forearm.
Step 4
Place a softball in the webbing of the glove, shut the glove, then put it under your mattress before you go to bed. When you wake up, take the glove out. It should be broken in.
Step 5
Repeat the breaking-in process until the glove is broken in to your liking.
