You will probably notice many dramatic changes in your body when you first realize you are pregnant. Some of these changes may be noticeable to other people, and some are more private. The hormonal changes that occur at the start of a pregnancy may start as early as the first several weeks of the pregnancy, reports WomensHealth. Upon noticing signs of pregnancy, it is crucial to meet with a doctor to discuss prenatal care.

Absent Period

Cessation of the period is often the first sign you are pregnant. If your menstrual cycle is irregular, it is more difficult to tell if your period has stopped or is just delayed. A home pregnancy test is a quick way to determine if the period is late or if you are pregnant.

Upset Stomach

A stomach that roils easily is another sign that a pregnancy has started. Morning sickness is a common sign of pregnancy. It may include vomiting or just a sensitive stomach that lurches at certain smells or tastes.

Exhaustion

Exhaustion is often an indicator of a new pregnancy. As the body adjusts to the pregnancy, you may need extra sleep.

Heartburn

Heartburn is another sign of pregnancy. As the pregnancy develops, you may feel a burning feeling in the chest that you have never experienced before. Certain spicy foods, such as chili or salsa, may make the heartburn feel more intense.

Headache

Headaches often occur at the start of a pregnancy. The headache pain may be fleeting or ongoing.

Food Cravings and Aversions

Food cravings and aversions are often a sign you are pregnant. The mere smell of some foods may make a pregnant woman cringe, while other foods will be deeply craved.

Mercurial Moods

Changes in mood are another sign a pregnancy has arrived, notes the National Institutes of Health. The hormonal changes of pregnancy make many women feel moody and emotional. The joy and even fear that accompany discovery of a pregnancy roil the emotions, too.

Change in Breast Size

Changes to the size of the breasts may indicate you are pregnant. The breasts swell because of hormonal changes in the body. Not all women notice this effect of pregnancy.

Urinary Urgency

More trips to the restroom are a common among newly pregnant women. For some women, the urinary frequency becomes more urgent as the pregnancy progresses.
