Pain during the menstrual period can vary from minor aches to severe agonizing cramps, back pain, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Headaches, depression, and extreme emotional fluctuations can all take place during this time. For safe and effective solutions, homeopathic remedies can be used to ease many of these discomforts. Seek the advice of a physician if relief is not easily achieved, as this may be indicative of a more severe underlying condition.
Belladonna
When belladonna is indicated, symptoms are usually very intense and may come and go quickly. A bright red and heavy flow may begin too early when this remedy is needed. Touch may increase pain and cramping, however, steady pressure may offer relief. If you are in need of belladonna, you may feel most comfortable while sitting. Walking and bending may exacerbate your symptoms.
Chamomilla
The woman in need of chamomilla is often extremely irritable and argumentative. Pain, cramping, and other symptoms may be brought on or heightened when she is angry. When you experience a heavy, dark and clotted menstrual flow, this remedy may give you relief. Pain may be present from the pelvic area reaching down into the thighs. Symptoms may be worse at night, but walking around may help relieve pain.
Cimicifuga
This homeopathic remedy should be used when your menstrual cramping is accompanied with back pain, depression, headaches, and anxiety. Sharp pains across the pelvis or down the thighs indicate the use of this remedy. According to Dr. Ellen Feingold, the woman in need of cimifuga may express a fear of losing her mind.
Lachesis
If you suffer the majority of your discomfort prior to the beginning of the menstrual period, lachesis may be needed. Hot flashes, headaches, and intolerance of clothing on the neck or waist can indicate the need for this remedy. The woman in need of lachesis may feel very intense, looking for an emotional outlet.
Magnesia Phosphorica
If you are suffering from spasmodic cramps and bloating, but find relief from pressure and warmth, try magnesia phosphorica. This remedy is often useful when the menstrual period starts too early accompanied by a dark or stringy discharge. The pain may be more severe on the right side of the body. The woman in need of this remedy may be emotionally sensitive, feeling worse at night. According to Dr. Gary Null, this remedy is effective approximately 85% of the time.
Pulsatilla
A delayed menses that comes along with nausea or lightheadedness may indicate the need for pulsatilla. Your flow may vary from light to heavy with a clotted discharged that is accompanied by a bearing-down sensation. Any time physical symptoms are variable, along with inconsistent moods, pulsatilla may relieve your discomfort. It is very helpful for young girls and women undergoing hormonal changes such as puberty or menopause.
