Many types of diets are designed to help people lose weight. Sometimes there are various associated side effects. The Master Cleanse is a diet meant to cleanse the body of toxins while promoting weight loss. There have been an array of side effects reported by users while on this cleanse.

Headaches

During this cleanse, you are not allowed to eat solid foods. Users are only permitted to consume a lemonade mixture, laxative tea and a salt water flush. Headaches occur as the result of diminishing blood sugar brought on by the severe diet restriction. The lower the blood sugar gets, the more intense the headache can be.

Diarrhea

A part of the cleanse involves taking a laxative tea. The laxative tea is taken at night to loosen the stool and work as a laxative. The salt water flush is also used as a laxative. Both of these laxatives are to cleanse the colon of all fecal matter. Because you are taking laxatives you will experience diarrhea. The diarrhea is a side effect of the cleanse and also an integral part of it. Because you are only taking in liquids the stool will be loose. The two laxatives will cause you to have bowel movements several times a day.

Bad Breath

As the diet really serves to act as a cleanse, you will experience bad breath. The bad breath is due to toxins being released. During the detox portion of the cleanse, toxins start to be released through several places in the body which include the underarms and tongue. Since the toxins are being released through the tongue, this causes bad breath as well as a white tongue. Once the detox portion of the cleanse is completed, the tongue returns to its natural pink color and the bad breath subsides.
