Acne can leave spots all over your face because of the inflammation the acne caused to your skin. While these spots will fade away in time, you can reduce their appearance and encourage them to fade much more quickly than they would on their own using a variety of treatments.

Step 1

Place lemon juice on your acne spots. You can use freshly squeeze lemon juice or the kind that comes in the plastic lemon-shaped container. It doesn't matter. What does matter is that you apply the juice directly to your red or brown marks and allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes. Then, rinse off with warm water. Discontinue use if skin irritation develops.

Step 2

Bleach your acne spots using a hydroquinone cream. Just dab the cream onto your spots every day. Be warned, however, that this cream will bleach all of your skin, not just your acne spots, so use it sparingly. Those with darker skin tones should avoid it as permanent white spots could develop.

Step 3

Apply sunscreen to your face to prevent your acne spots from becoming worse. Sunscreen protects your skin from sun damage and prevents the acne spots from darkening due to sun exposure. Make applying sunscreen a part of your daily routine, just like washing your face or putting on moisturizer.

Step 4

Set up an appointment with your dermatologist to undergo a microdermabrasion treatment. Unlike dermabrasion, microdermabrasion does not create an open wound and simply sloughs off dead skin cells. Your skin might be red or irritated for a few days, but there is no healing time and with several treatments, your acne spots will begin to fade.

Step 5

Set up an appointment with your dermatologist to undergo a chemical peel. A variety of peel strengths are available to perform very light peels to very deep ones. Acids are used to accomplish this like glycolic acid, lactic acid or even phenols. The substance is placed on your skin, sits for a few minutes and is rinsed off. You may look red or experience peeling skin as an after effect. After several sessions, your acne spots should begin to fade and your overall skin tone will be more even.
