Acne is a skin condition that's most common during adolescence. The sebaceous glands become more active and produce greater amounts of sebum, a natural oil that protects your skin. The increase in sebum production can clog pores and cause them to become inflamed. The pores can then erupt into the pustules characteristic of acne. You can treat acne with natural products that clear the pores or eradicate the bacteria that can aggravate acne.
Step 1
Peel a raw clove of garlic and slice it open. Place the exposed end to your acne for a period of five to 10 minutes each day. Garlic juice contains compounds that can kill the bacteria that make acne worse. Don't apply the garlic for longer periods--garlic juice can inflame your skin and cause it to blister.
Step 2
Spread a thin layer of honey over your acne and wait for it to dry. Remove the honey with gentle soap and warm water. This treatment can remove the older skin cells and keep them from blocking your pores. Use manuka honey for this treatment if possible, as it has better antiseptic properties than other types.
Step 3
Squeeze lemon juice into a small bowl and add four times this amount of water to the bowl. Stir and place a soft washcloth in the diluted lemon juice. Apply the washcloth to your face for a few minutes, then rinse with soap and water. This treatment can also keep your pores clear by dissolving the dead skin cells.
Step 4
Mix one part tea tree oil with 19 parts water to make a natural astringent for acne. Apply a few drops of this solution to a cotton ball and apply it to places where your skin is especially oily. Use tea tree oil cautiously, as it can cause inflammation if it dries out your skin too much.
