Chin Hair Removal Options

There are numerous ways in which you can remove hair from your chin. Many of the least expensive options provide temporary results, while more costly procedures offer long-term or even permanent hair removal. Regardless of your preference, most options work well at removing hair from the chin.

Tweezing

For women experiencing unwanted hair growth on the chin, tweezing is an effective option, especially when hair growth in minimal. Random hairs can be easily and cheaply removed with a pair of tweezers. Simply sterilize the ends with rubbing alcohol prior to extraction to avoid infection.

Shaving

For more substantial growth, a razor can both effectively and economically remove chin hair. All that's needed is a little shaving gel and a razor blade to shear the hair close to the skin.
As you remove hair with a razor, make sure to shave in the direction of hair growth, minimize razor strokes and avoid pressing the blade tight to the skin. This lessens irritation of the skin and follicles, thereby preventing razor burns and razor bumps.

Waxing

Another option for chin hair removal is waxing. Waxing is done both professionally and with at-home kits. Warmed wax is applied to areas of unwanted hair. A strip of fabric is placed over the top. Once the area has cooled, the strip is quickly pulled away from the skin, taking with it the embedded hair. This hair removal method is a bit more painful than both tweezing and shaving, but just as effective.

Sugaring

Although not as common as other hair removal methods, sugaring removes unwanted hair as well. Instead of warm wax, a sugary paste is applied to the skin. A strip of fabric is placed over the top and then quickly pulled away from the skin, taking with it the embedded hair. The pain factor is on a par with waxing.

Depilatories

There are also chemicals available that essentially disintegrate unwanted hair in the form of depilatories. Since you're hoping to remove chin hair, it's important to use a product that's formulated for your face. They're often not as harsh on the skin as depilatories used on the legs, but they can still give you a chemical burn.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is one option that provides long-term results. With this cosmetic procedure, pulses of laser light energy are directed onto the chin. The energy basically passes through the epidermis and is absorbed by the hair and follicle, says the Mayo Clinic.
This vaporizes the hair and damages the follicle, providing a hair-free appearance for upwards of 12 months or longer. There are also at-home laser kits that work under the same principles as the professional devices. They just don't provide as long-term of results.

Electrolysis

If you're looking to permanently remove chin hair, the American Academy of Dermatology suggests electrolysis as another option. This cosmetic procedure uses a thin probe to administer an electric shock directly into the follicle, damaging it to the point that it no longer produces hair.
