You can have good hair. According to Jeanne Rose, herbalist of forty years and President Emeritus of the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy (NAHA), you just need to "treat your hair as kindly as you treat the skin of your face." By incorporating herbs, household ingredients, and common sense, you can achieve a healthy head of hair all by yourself.
Split Ends
Be gentle and do less to your hair. Reduce blow drying, never brush hair when wet, and use the softest hair care accessories possible. No hair care product can eliminate split ends, but products with alcohol can be particularly drying, leading to brittle hair. Trim hair frequently to reduce strain at the ends.
Tangled Hair
Shampoo less frequently. You can also rub a few drops of conditioner (leave-in or regular) to damp hair, working from the ends up towards the scalp. Dry hair thoroughly, then dry or style as usual. Provided you use a gentle product, this technique is also safe to use with children, who often develop snarls in long hair.
Frizzy Hair
Rinse with the coldest hair possible. Warm hair opens the hair follicle and makes it more vulnerable to moisture. Rinsing with cold water closes the hair shaft and also improves hair shine.
Treated / Damaged Hair
Whip an egg with warm water, then apply the mask to hair and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then rinse. Do not shampoo afterward. The fatty acids in the egg help restore hair texture, shape, and shine. You can also add a tablespoon of honey for additional moisturizing power.
Dandruff
Rinse with a teaspoon of lime juice, which is an astringent and can help control fungal growth on the scalp, which creates an abundance of dry skin. You can also apply cider vinegar directly, or half diluted with water, to the scalp. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse.
Hair Loss
Rinse with a rosemary or nettle infusion to stimulate hair growth. Create an infusion by adding 2-3 tbsp. herbs to a quart of boiling water. Place in a glass jar. Store one to eight hours, cool, then apply. Do not rinse afterward.
