Workout DVDs are not just for women just like the weight room is not just for men. There are exercise DVDs specifically designed to meet the fitness needs of men; those that focus on toning a man's problem areas (upper body and core) and offer no-nonsense, gym-style classic exercises that help burn fat while maximizing overall strength.

Men's Health: 15-Minute Workout

Recommended by Your Exercise DVDs web site and Mademan.com, this DVD features four no-nonsense strength-training workouts, each less than 15 minutes in length. You'll need a workout bench or sturdy chair, a stability ball, a mat and a jump rope (optional). Each workout has a different focus. The strength workout features what instructor Terry Simpson calls "offset" training--using a different size weight in each hand, to engage your stabilization (balance) muscles. The cardio segment alternates fat-burning cardio (jump roping) with dumbbell exercises to maximize variety. The final routine uses ultra heavy weights to work your lower body to fatigue.

Tony Horton Workouts

In Tony Horton's "10 Minute Trainer" he uses what he calls a new breakthrough "Super Stacking Technique" which works out the full body versus completing one section at a time, using vigorous inteval training. According to Tony, this enables you to build maximum strength in less time. Another Tony Horton classic, the "P90X workout system," includes progressive videos that add steps to increase your fitness level through a variety of personal workout routines. These routines help develop strength, coordination, and flexibility and combine weight-training classics with strength training moves such as push-ups and pull-ups. It also offers cardiovascular kickboxing-style aerobics and yoga for overall fitness. Both of these DVDs are recommended as "Top 10" picks on the Mademan web site.

Swiss Ball Abs: Adam Ford

Rated one of the top seven workout DVDs by the Ask Men website, this workout uses a stability ball to zero in on an area of great interest to men: the abdominal muscles. This exercise DVD features three 20-minute routines that target the mid-section of the rectus abdominis from all directions. The exercises enhance definition in the upper and lower abs, as well as the obliques for waist definition. Working the obliques is beneficial for improving strength during swinging motions, used in many sports such as golf and baseball. Using a stability ball makes the moves even more challenging and helps improve balance and coordination.
