Eugenia caryophyllus is an evergreen tree that grows mainly in tropical areas. For medicinal use, Eugenia is primarily used in the form of an essential oil, which can be used both internally and externally. Eugenia's dried flower buds also have their place in alternative medicine. Eugenia is best known as clove and often sold under that name.
Step 1
Put some drops of Eugenia essential oil on a cotton tip and use it on the gums to treat a toothache. Rub all around the tooth and then cover the tooth itself. Repeat a few times a day or as needed to control pain. This should only be used to control pain and swelling until you can see a dentist and is not a replacement for professional treatment.
Step 2
Make a tea using a few drops of essential oil added to a cup of warm water. Drink it to relieve nausea and to prevent or stop vomiting. Read the label on the bottle, as essential oils come in different strengths and recommended dosage varies.
Step 3
Add a couple of drops of clove essential oil to a cup of water to use as a mouthwash. This can help reduce a toothache or relieve inflammation on the inside of the mouth. It can also be used to gargle and relieve a sore throat.
