Wrinkles may be superficial or deep and are caused by several factors. Too much exposure to sunlight leads to wrinkle formation as well as exposure to tobacco smoke. Sunlight breaks down collagen, a protein that keeps your skin firm and free of wrinkles. Smoking leads to early aging and wrinkle formation. Additionally, wrinkles occur as a result of aging. Some products and procedures can reduce wrinkles. Consult your dermatologist or physician before you undergo a wrinkle treatment.
Collagen Fillers
Collagen is a naturally occurring protein found in different parts of the body, including your skin. Injectable forms of collagen are made from pigs or cows. Cow collagen is known as bovine collagen, while pig collagen is called porcine collagen.
Evolence, a porcine collagen filler or injectable, corrects moderate to deep wrinkles. Zyderm or Zyplast are bovine collagen fillers that smooth out wrinkles.
Botulinum toxin type A or Botox
Botulinum toxin type A is also known as Botox. Muscles that cause wrinkles in your skin are flattened and relaxed by Botox injections. According to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botox is able to do this because it temporarily paralyzes the muscles that causes wrinkles. This smooths out the wrinkles in your skin.
The results from Botox last about three to four months. Therefore, injections are repeated to maintain wrinkle-free skin.
Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion is a procedure used to treat several skin irregularities including wrinkles. During dermabrasion treatment, a rapidly spinning brush with a rough surface is used to scrape off the top layer of your skin. This permits new skin to develop in place of the removed skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
Chemical Peels
Chemicals such as glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid and phenol are used as chemical peels. During this procedure, your dermatologist applies a chemical to your face, leaves it on for some time and then removes it. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery says chemical peels reduce wrinkles.
Laser Therapy
Laser therapy or resurfacing can reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons says It can reduce lines on your forehead, crow's feet, smile lines and wrinkles around your mouth.
During this therapy, your dermatologist uses a small wand-like device to apply laser beams to the problem areas on your skin. Laser resurfacing works by stimulating your skin to produce collagen, which is necessary for the reduction of wrinkles and also by peeling away the top layer of your skin. After laser therapy, you develop new skin cells that make your skin smoother and firmer.
