1. Plan a Detox Diet
A detox diet usually involves 7 to 10 days of "cleansing," where you eat a specific regimen of food that rids your digestive tract of toxins and impurities. Specific detox diets vary. Some focus on raw foods, while others stress laxatives to cleanse your bowels. However, a few general guidelines can be found in all of them. You'll want to eat a lot of natural foods with a high fiber content, such as grains and nuts. Natural foods such as fruits and vegetables are highly recommended as well. Drink plenty of water on a detox diet -- 8 glasses a day is suggested -- and stay away from sugars, dairy products, alcohol and caffeine. You may wish to supplement the diet with herbal remedies found in tablets, tinctures and teas. Focus on herbs which are intended to help the liver, kidneys and colon: those parts of your body which remove harmful chemicals. Make sure you have a proper nutritional balance in your detox diet. Never ignore basic health requirements, regardless of what you eat and always check with your doctor before you begin a detox diet.
2. Sweat
Sweating removes harmful chemicals through your skin and makes a great way to detox naturally. You can start simply by exercising more often. Focus on aerobics-based exercise such as running and cycling. These activities encourage blood circulation rather than building muscle mass. Saunas and spas are another way to sweat. You can also take a detox bath using hot water mixed with 1 cup of Epsom salts or baking soda. That helps open up the pores and leach harmful chemicals out of your skin. You may want to dry brush your skin before you bathe, which removes dead cells and helps clear the pores.
3. Take Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is a holistic medicine which absorbs poisons in the system and helps them to pass safely out of the body. Emergency rooms and poison centers sometimes use it in their treatment of poisoning victims. You can buy it in any natural foods store. Always follow the label instructions carefully and get your doctor's advice if you have any questions about using it.
4. Supplement Your Diet With Antioxidants
Antioxidants include Vitamins A, C and E. They help raise glutathione and silymarin in the body, which aid the liver and other organs in removing harmful chemicals. Vitamin C also works as a natural laxative, which is helpful in detoxifying too. You can eat foods which are high in antioxidant content or take these vitamins in pill form as a supplement to your normal diet.
