Cellulite accumulates when there is excess body fat. Cellulite gets its dimpled or "cottage cheese" appearance because it protrudes under the skin through weak connective tissue. To stop cellulite it is important to clean up your diet and engage in physical activity that burns calories and fat.
Step 1
Drink enough water each day to stay hydrated. Try to drink at least 64 ounces (eight eight-ounce glasses) per day. According to Shape Fit, dehydration can make cellulite more pronounced. If your urine runs mostly clear you are properly hydrated.
Step 2
Reduce the amount of fat you eat each day to stop cellulite. According to The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, if the portion of the recommended daily value (DV) of fat content is five percent or less the food is low in fat.
Step 3
Choose healthier foods for each meal. Choose from nutrient-dense foods such as whole-grains, dairy products that are fat-free or low-fat, fruits, vegetables and lean protein (skinless poultry, whey, soy, turkey and fish). These foods contain more nutrients and vitamins without added fat, sugar or calories that can produce more cellulite.
Step 4
Participate in daily cardio exercise to burn calories and fat, and to prevent cellulite from appearing. Pick two or three activities to alternate between to avoid hitting a plateau or getting bored. Perform your cardio for at least 30 minutes per session. Choose activities that will elevate your heart and use most of your body, such as running, swimming, cycling and tennis.
Step 5
Build lean muscle and stop cellulite with strength training. Ace Fitness recommends two to three sessions of strength training per week. Be sure to perform at least one exercise for each major muscle (biceps, triceps, shoulders, back, chest, abs, quadriceps, hamstrings and calves) during your sessions. For each exercise complete two to four sets of eight to 12 repetitions.
