When you carry a lot of excess weight in the face, it can make you appear larger than you really are. By losing some weight in your face, you can give yourself an overall slimmer appearance. Getting rid of water weight and dropping a few pounds can help you not only lose weight in the face, but the rest of your body as well.

Low Sodium Diet

By restricting the amount of salt you eat, you can reduce the amount of water you retain in the face. There are several foods that are high in sodium and should be avoided altogether. Foods to watch out for include table salt, soy sauce, processed meals, canned soups, canned vegetables, lunch meat, fast food and chips.

Reduced Calorie Diet

If you want to lose weight anywhere on the body, including the face, limit your calorie intake. By cutting as few as 500 calories a day, you can average a weight loss of 1 lb. or more weekly. Write down everything that you eat on a normal day in a food journal. Determine the foods and beverages that you can avoid to trim 500 calories off your normal intake.

Calcium

It is recommended that you have a daily intake of 1,200mg of calcium. According to Good Housekeeping, getting enough calcium can lead to a higher degree of fat loss and a reduction in water retention. High calcium foods include milk, yogurt, cheese, beans, spinach and orange juice. A calcium supplement can be used in the case of an insufficient intake from diet.

Facial Yoga

According to an article featured in Time magazine, facial yoga can tighten and tone the face. This type of yoga involves making a series of expressions to work the muscles beneath the skin's surface. The smiling fish face pose involves sucking in your cheeks while puckering your lips. The pose is held for 60 seconds before releasing. The lion face pose instructs you to squeeze all of your facial muscles at once before relaxing all muscles by opening the eyes wide and sticking out the tongue.
