Ten-pin bowling, which is the most popular type of bowling in the United States, consists of nine frames of two throws each, and a 10th frame of three throws. At the beginning of every frame, 10 pins are present on the bowling lane. Other types of bowling include nine-pin bowling, five-pin bowling, duckpin bowling and candlepin bowling. Each of these types have their own rules and strategies. However, 10-pin bowling is still one of the most popular participation sports in the United States and the most played type of bowling.
Keep Your Hand Relaxed
The best way to deliver an accurate roll in bowling is to keep your hand relaxed inside the ball. If your fingers are hurting from gripping the ball, you are squeezing it too tight. You hand should be relaxed so you can let the ball go smoothly.
Using Angles
When throwing the ball, stand to the far left of the lane and use the middle arrow as your target (if you are a lefty, stand on the far right of the lane). Using the middle part of the lane will allow you to have a better opportunity of hitting the pins in the middle, which improves your chances of getting a strike.
Keep Your Eye on the Target
Never look at the ball when you are letting it go. Keep your eyes on the pins, focusing on the precise spot where you want the ball to hit. By keeping your eye on the target, it will reduce inconsistency in your game and allow you to concentrate much better during a match.
Using Insert Tape
Using bowling tape inside the thumb hole of the bowling ball can be helpful. Bowling tape can be bought anywhere that sells bowling equipment. Brunswick provides one of the more popular brands of bowling tape. Tape gives you a much better grip on the ball, which is critical if you hope to control the direction and angle of the ball. You should put enough tape in the thumb hole so the ball doesn't slip but not so much that you have trouble getting your thumb out of the hole. To apply the tape, place it around the inside of the hole by taking a piece of tape just big enough for the circumference of the hole, then folding it together into a circle. If desired, you can also place a piece of tape at the bottom of the hole.
Finish Close to the Foul Line
When you release the ball, you should be about 6 inches from the foul line. The ball should hit the ground just before the foul line. If, after you throw the ball, your feet are too far away from the line, refine your throw so that you end up closer.
Watch Professional Bowling
One of the best ways to improve at a sport is to watch professionals play the sport. By watching professional bowling, you can study the bowlers' techniques. Female pros are particularly interesting to watch because they concentrate more on finesse and technique than power.
