The suspicion that your husband is cheating on you is a disconcerting and sickening feeling. You might want to ignore your gut feelings, or you might want to do everything in your power to confirm that he is cheating or prove that he is not. There are some clues that many unfaithful husbands leave behind. A few clues may not necessarily indicate that your husband has a lover; rather, they are simply indications that you should communicate with your husband about your suspicions.
Behavioral Changes
A husband who is cheating may subtly or drastically change his behavior around others in the household. He may be kinder and more accommodating, especially in the beginning, when he is likely to be feeling guilt over his affair. On the other hand, he may take out his guilt on family members, treating them badly and then storming out to meet up with his mistress. Your husband may begin paying more attention to his appearance by dressing more nicely than usual, wearing new cologne, working out or losing weight. He might also begin keeping tabs on where you are in order to avoid running into you while he is with his lover.
Physical Clues
You may notice some physical clues that your husband is having an affair. These may include another woman's perfume on his clothing, lipstick marks on his collar, telephone numbers in his pockets and receipts for gifts that he does not give you. He may have a hotel key in his wallet or matchbooks from restaurants that the two of you have never been to.
Financial Clues
A cheating husband often spends money differently than he did before he was enmeshed in an affair. You may notice unexplained credit card charges or that he is withdrawing more money from your checking account than usual. You may suddenly be going over your allotted cell phone minutes when you never did before; if this is the case, ask the cell phone company for an itemized bill to see if he is calling the same number often.
Sexual Differences
If your husband is cheating on you, he may have a change in sexual behaviors. Wanting markedly more or less sex than usual could be a clue. If he suddenly has new bedroom techniques or wants to try new positions, this could indicate that he is learning new tricks elsewhere.
Changes in Availability
When a husband has an affair, he must compensate for the time that he is spending with his mistress. He may not answer his phone at work, or may let his cell phone calls go to voice mail. He might suddenly go in earlier to work or stay later, with no change in his salary or the amount of work that he brings home. Business trips and long meetings may come up more often. He might begin skipping the children's evening activities to be with his lover.
