The "Eat Right for Your Type" plan, developed by Dr. Peter D'Adamo, helps individuals eat properly according to their blood type. According to D'Adamo, when you eat based on your blood type, you're able to build up a defense against chronic diseases as well as lose weight. Each blood type's unique antigen marker reacts to certain foods as well. If the wrong foods are consumed, it can lead to a host of health problems. Blood type AB is directed to consume small, frequent meals and choose from foods allowed for both the A and B blood types.
Protein, Eggs, Dairy and Cheese
The best meat/protein foods for blood type AB, according to D'Adamo and the website, The Natural Health Place, are lamb (mutton), turkey, rabbit and liver. All meats should be organic, free-range/cage-free or wild game. Free-range eggs (one only) may be consumed two to four times weekly. A variety of fish are recommended for AB blood type, such as albacore tuna, cod, mackerel, grouper, mahi-mahi, ocean perch, pike, rainbow or sea trout, red snapper, salmon, sardines and sturgeon. All milks are allowed, but the best choices are Kefir and goat's milk (in limited quantities). Recommended cheeses for blood type AB include farmer, goat, feta, cottage, mozzarella and ricotta. Yogurt (frozen, with fruit) is also allowed.
Grains, Beans and Vegetables
Extra virgin olive oil, organic clarified butter (ghee) and organic coconut oil are recommended for blood type AB. Beans and legumes appropriate for blood type AB include red, pinto and navy beans, as well as green lentils and tempeh (fermented soy product). Cereals and grains recommended for blood type AB are spelt, millet, oats and rice (basmati, brown, wild or white), sprouted wheat and things made with them. In addition to Ezekiel and essene breads, those with blood type AB may also choose rice cakes, Finn Crisp and rye vita crackers.
Vegetables should be consumed in large quantities; at least three cups each raw and cooked. The best choices for blood type AB include sprouts (alfalfa), beets and beet leaves, broccoli, celery, collard greens, cauliflower, cucumber, eggplant, kale, garlic, mustard greens, parsnips, sweet potatoes and all yams. Vegetables should come from local sources or should be grown in your own garden.
Fruits, Juices and Seasonings
In addition to dark, green or red plums (recommended for all blood types), those with blood type AB may also choose from the following fruits: goose or logan berries, cherries, cranberries, dried or fresh figs, grapes (all varieties), grapefruit, kiwi, lemons and pineapple. All fruits should be from sources in your state or grown in your own garden. Recommended juices include black cherry, cranberry, grape, papaya, carrot and fresh juices from all other allowed fruits and vegetables. Orange juice should be avoided by blood type AB. For seasonings, in addition to ginger, curry, horseradish, miso and parsley are recommended.
