Cellulite is a condition that causes skin to appear dimpled or uneven, according to Medical News Today. Although cellulite is most common in those who are overweight, anyone can have cellulite on the skin. In addition to lifestyle factors such as poor diet or being sedentary, cellulite also is caused by hormones in the body, heredity and even wearing clothing that is too tight. Cellulite removal often depends upon the severity. This can range from increasing circulation to surgical techniques such as liposuction.

Losing Weight

Poor diet and lack of exercise are some of the chief contributors to cellulite development. A healthy lifestyle can be a remedy that doesn't outside intervention. Drinking plenty of fluids, which can make the skin appear more subtle; exercising regularly, which helps to increase circulation; and eating a healthy balance of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains can be a remedy for cellulite, according to Medical News Today.

Therapeutic Massage

A variety of massage treatments are used to stimulate blood and lymph flow in the body, thus smoothing out the appearance of cellulite. One example is Endermologie, a U.S. Food & Drug Administration-approved cellulite treatment. Endermologie treatments involve the use of mechanized rollers applied to the affected area to smooth cellulite dimples, according to aboardcertifiedplasticsurgeonresource.com. However, this treatment may take several sessions in order to produce results. Without frequent maintenance treatments, the results may subside with time.

Laser and Radiofrequency Systems

These therapies combine the use of several treatments in order to remove or reduce cellulite. According to the Mayo Clinic, massage, radiofrequency and a laser are applied to skin. The laser penetrates under the skin to heat the area, which then increases circulation. Another method combines laser and tissue massage in order to stimulate the outer skin layers while penetrating underneath the outside layers of skin.

Compression Garments

According to Medical News Today, wearing compression garments can improve cellulite's appearance. By compressing the skin, the arteries must pump more blood in order to reach the skin. As a result, the skin appears more plump and smooth. Compression garments closely resemble very tight-knit pantyhose and can be worn as tights that go from the feet to the waist. Or they can be from knee to waist, for those hoping to smooth the thighs and buttocks.
