Self-confidence is defined as having an unwavering belief in yourself. A person who isn't self-assured, on the other hand, may tend to feel insecure about his overall value as a human being. Low self-confidence can have negative consequences, while high self-confidence can have a positive impact on your life. It's possible to raise your self-confidence by making a few tweaks in your attitude and approach to life.

Thoughts

Step 1

Pay attention to your thoughts. An insecure way of thinking may have become so second nature that you are unaware of the damaging effects it may be having on your self-confidence.

Step 2

Catch yourself when you start to mentally tear yourself down. Replace negative self-talk with positive thoughts about yourself. Remember that if you think you can, you're right, and if you think you can't, you're also right.

Step 3

Think about the things you have to be grateful for. Acknowledge your accomplishments both large and small. Give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done.

Step 4

Stop thinking about yourself. Refocus your thoughts on a small project or hobby. This can lift your spirits and boost your self-confidence.

Actions

Step 1

Dress the part. You can give yourself confidence a shot in the arm by caring for your appearance. Taking a refreshing shower and putting on clean clothing can do the trick.

Step 2

Carry yourself with confidence. Stand up straight, make eye contact while speaking or listening to others, and walk with your head held high. Acting in a positive manner can make you feel more self-assured.

Step 3

Set your sights on a small, achievable goal. Once accomplished, strive for an even bigger accomplishment. As your triumphs grow, so will your self-confidence.

Step 4

Stop procrastinating. Call or write a friend you have been thinking about. Tidy up your house or yard. Committing to tasks can make you feel good about yourself and increase your self-esteem.

Step 5

Volunteer some of your time to help someone who is less fortunate than yourself. Knowing you made a positive difference in the life of another can do wonders for your self-confidence.
