Imigran is the brand name for sumatriptan succinate, a prescription medication indicated for the treatment of symptoms associated with migraine headaches. This medication triggers the release of a specific neurochemical called serotonin, which acts to normalize blood flow within the brain. Imigran is predominately marketed within the United Kingdom and is not actively prescribed within the United States. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about Imigran side effects before you begin taking this medication.

Abnormal Body Sensations

While taking Imigran, you can experience abnormal sensations throughout the body as a side effect of treatment. Your skin may feel numb, tingly or warm after taking this medication. These side effects can also be accompanied by mild pain or skin flushing (reddening). Some patients also experience sensations of pressure, tightness or heaviness in certain regions of the body such as the throat, limbs or chest. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects as they may be indicative of a more severe medical problem.

Stomach Upset

Treatment with Imigran can cause symptoms of an upset stomach to develop in some patients, says the Better Health Channel. You can begin to feel nauseous or vomit shortly after taking a dose of this medication. These side effects are unpleasant and can also occur in conjunction with abdominal pain or diarrhea. If you notice blood in your stools, contact your doctor as soon as possible for further evaluation and care.

Dizziness

This medication can cause certain patients to feel dizzy or lightheaded following treatment, explains GlaxoSmithKline UK, the manufacturer of Imigran. These side effects can contribute to symptoms of stomach upset and may cause fainting or loss of consciousness. If you experience dizziness after taking a dose of Imigran, remain seated until this sensation subsides in order to prevent additional injury from tripping or falling.

Weakness or Fatigue

You can experience abnormal weakness or fatigue while taking Imigran. You may find that you have difficulty concentrating or remaining alert throughout the day. These side effects can negatively affect your ability to participate in your usual daily activities.

Blurred Vision

The Better Health Channel warns that you can experience vision alterations as a side effect of treatment while taking this medication. You can notice that your vision appears abnormally cloudy or blurred, which can cause you to feel dizzy or have difficulty walking normally. These side effects are typically mild but should be reported to your primary care doctor as soon as possible.

Tremors

You can experience involuntary body movements as a side effect of Imigran use. You may notice that your hands or legs shake uncontrollably--a condition called tremors. Tremors can occur in conjunction with abnormal body sensations or dizziness and can lead to difficulty walking in certain patients.
