1. Look Into Plant Extracts
Numerous herbal and homeopathic compounds are available to treat some of the most common symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. Of those, Ginkgo biloba is widely known for its ability to protect and heal cells. Ginkgo is also a popular remedy for treating Alzheimer's because it seems to normalize neurological conditions. Other commonly used natural remedies include Coenzyme Q10 (an antioxidant), Huperzine A (a moss extract) and Omega-3 fatty acids. Vitamin E may be helpful in treating Alzheimer's disease, as its anti-oxidative properties may effect aging brain cells. You should only take vitamin E under medical supervision since it can interact with prescriptions.
2. Change the Environment
You may be hypersensitive to changes in your routine and the atmosphere around you. Reactive stress can cause you to experience anything from verbal outbursts to delusions and can even worsen physical symptoms. Limiting stress can help enormously, but it's also important to keep things stable, without major changes in your routine and activities. Simplify life as much as possible. For example, write down all the important phone numbers, so you don't have to worry about remembering them during an emergency. Replace several remote controls with a universal one and replace blinds with curtains.
3. Take Your Medication
While there are no drugs to cure Alzheimer's disease, there are several medications that help you to manage the most severe symptoms. Cholinesterase inhibitors are most commonly prescribed, as they help with memory and mental clarity. At later stages of the disease, combining inhibitors with Memantine (Namenda) can provide greater benefits. If you experience depression or hallucinations, you may be prescribed additional drugs to deal with these symptoms.
