1. Treat Gallstones With Herbal Teas
Teas brewed from herbs that stimulate bile production are among the natural home remedies that may treat gallstones. A tea brewed from dandelion root, Oregon grape root and marshmallow root with chamomile and nettle leaves can reduce inflammation. Milk thistle and turmeric promote bile production and move stones through your system. You can find these herbs in natural food stores and the natural food section of some grocery stores.
While these teas may soothe your symptoms and dissolve smaller gallstones for some, they are not for everyone. Check with your doctor before taking herbs to treat any type of medical condition. Some people claim that drinks called "flushes" can cleanse your system of gallstones. Flushes are usually made with castor and olive oils and are sometimes combined with fruit juices. Be aware that oil-based flushes are not scientifically proven to dissolve gallstones and can be dangerous to your body. Consuming excessive amount of oils can give you diarrhea, which may lead to dehydration.
2. Take Peppermint Oil Supplements
Peppermint essential oil also may treat your gallstones. Take peppermint oil supplements in the form of capsules up to three times daily between meals to dissolve stones. This is not an immediate cure and may not work for everyone, but smaller stones gradually may break up.
3. Reduce Inflammation With a Castor-Oil Compress
Many people feel abdominal pain when they have larger gallstones. Using a Castor oil hot compress can reduce inflammation and act as an effective pain management tool. Put Castor oil on a soft, clean cloth and place it on the area that hurts. Cover the oiled cloth with plastic wrap. Put a heating pad or hot water bottle on top of the plastic wrap. Keep the entire compress on the area for about 30 minutes.
