After playing enough hockey on your roller blades, they are going to become dirty and oily. It is not something that you can avoid, but cleaning them is not too much of a chore. Keeping your skates clean is extremely important to keep your hockey blades in top shape.
Cleaning Roller Hockey Skates
Step 1
Take the wheels off the skates by using the Allen wrench. Turn the screws counterclockwise until they fall out. Remove the wheels.
Step 2
Using the bearing tool, put pressure on the center of the wheel until the bearing pops out. Take the side shields off the bearing using the pin. Pry the clips that hold the shield on, but once the clips are off, be sure not to lose any pieces.
Step 3
Scrub the wheels and skate with warm, soapy water until they are clean. Using an old toothbrush can make the job much easier. After cleaning, wipe the wheels and skates down with a rag to remove any extra soap.
Step 4
Put soapy water in the cup and place the bearings in the cup. Swish the cup around until the bearings are clean, then dry them off with the rag.
Step 5
Using bearing lubricant (which can be bought from any hardware or mechanical store), lubricate the bearings and place them back onto the skate (along with the shields and clips).
Step 6
Reattach the wheels to the skates using the Allen wrench. When you are finished reassembling both skates, test each wheel by spinning it with your hand. Every wheel should spin freely.
