It is very rare to find someone who wants to get older. People will try everything from pills to creams and even major cosmetic procedures in order to look and feel younger. Though no one can stay young forever, it is possible to prevent premature aging of the body and slow down the aging process. Instead of spending a lot of money or taking health risks through invasive procedures, eating the right foods can actually prevent premature aging and slow down the effects of time.

Walnuts

Walnuts are one of the best foods to prevent early aging because they are full of healthy fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. "More" magazine explains that the healthy oils and fatty acids found in walnuts prevent aging by decreasing inflammation in the body. Inflammation can manifest itself in the form of puffy skin, arthritis or even heart problems. Walnuts can also lower cholesterol and other diseases associated with aging, according to the same source.

Berries

Berries are a sweet treat that can be eaten anytime in order to slow down aging. Berries like strawberries, blueberries and raspberries can help improve memory, which usually slows as people age, according to the Institute of Food Technologists. Fruits like berries can reduce the risk of developing diseases like Alzheimer's and arthritis. The high water content of fruits like berries is also beneficial for the skin. Berries can be eaten as a snack, as a dessert or even mixed into salads.

Spinach

According to "More" magazine, spinach is another food that can prevent premature aging. Spinach, which is excellent in salads, sauteed or in omelets, can reduce the risk of heart diseases and other chronic diseases. It can also prevent macular degeneration, the deterioration of vision related to aging. This means that people who eat spinach often may have better vision as they get older. Fresh and frozen spinach are equally nutritious, according to the same source.

Yogurt

Dr. Nicholas Perricone, dermatologist and anti-aging expert, explains on Oprah's website that eating yogurt can also decrease the effects of aging. He states that yogurt has live, active cultures of healthy bacteria called probiotics. These probiotics in yogurt can help the body to fight sickness and diseases more effectively. Dr. Perricone states that eating yogurt can reduce the risk for some types of cancers and even help to prevent excess weight gain and obesity. Since the metabolism slows down with age, eating yogurt can combat that specific effect of aging.
