Bronchitis refers to a bacterial infection that affects the lungs. The Mayo Clinic indicates that specific bronchitis symptoms include wheezing, a cough productive of yellow, gray or green sputum, shortness of breath and chest discomfort. Sometimes, bronchitis leads to chills, fever and fatigue. Medications used to treat bronchitis are available to decrease its symptoms. Many bronchitis medications exist that can treat symptoms.

Moxifloxacin

Moxifloxacin, commonly sold as Avelox, is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that destroys bacteria within the body. Drugs.com indicates that moxifloxacin's less concerning side effects include vomiting, nausea, anxiousness, agitation, blurry vision and trouble sleeping. In some instances, moxifloxacin causes drowsiness. Some of its serious side effects include depression, hallucinations, easy bleeding or bruising, a fast or pounding heartbeat and fainting. Call a doctor immediately if moxifloxacin leads to these effects. A change in moxifloxacin's dosage may be required when suffering from such diseases as kidney or liver disease, diabetes, myasthenia gravis or low potassium levels (hypokalemia). Moxifloxacin is available as a tablet or injection given daily or as prescribed.

Azithromycin

Azithromycin, commonly sold as Zithromax or Zmax, is a macrolide antibiotic that treats bronchitis, sexually transmitted diseases and infections of the skin or ear. Drugs.com says that azithromycin's less serious side effects include vaginal itching or discharge, ringing in the ears, nervousness, trouble sleeping, a headache, diarrhea and a decreased sense of smell or taste. Its serious side effects include chest pain, watery or bloody diarrhea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, a low fever and dark urine. Notify a doctor if azithromycin leads to these effects. Suffering from kidney or liver disease, heart problems and myasthenia gravis may require an adjustment in azithromycin's dose. Azithromycin is a capsule, tablet or liquid taken daily or as indicated.

Cefdinir

Cefdinir, commonly sold as Omnicef, is another antibiotic medication that treats bronchitis, tonsillitis, ear infections, skin infections and pneumonia. Medline Plus, a website of the National Institutes of Health, says that cefdinir's less serious side effects include headache, dizziness, vomiting, poor appetite and diarrhea. Some of its serious side effects include vaginal infection, trouble breathing or swallowing, hives, rash and swelling of the tongue, lips, legs, face and eyes. Seek emergency medical care if cefdinir leads to these effects. Suffering from such diseases as colitis, kidney disease or diabetes may require a reduction in cefdinir's dose. Cefdinir is a liquid or capsule taken two times daily.
