According to recent findings in the Journal for the American Medicine Association (JAMA), about one-third of American men and women are obese. A person who has merely surpassed the recommended weight to height ratio can be described as overweight; however, someone is considered obese if she has gone well above the ideal weight for someone of her gender and height. While the Weight-control Information Network defines "overweight" as excessive body weight that may come from muscle, bone, water or adipose (fat) tissue, the definition of "obesity" specifically refers to a condition in which a person has an excessive amount of fat tissue in correlation to her height.
There are numerous causes for obesity, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including genetics, illness, medication side effects, environment, diet and physical activity. To change your body from being obese, you do not just need to lose weight but to burn fat as well. Whether you are obese or just overweight, many resources can help you lose weight, burn fat and get in shape.
If attending exercise classes is too expensive or time consuming, consider trying one of the many free weight loss exercise programs available. When choosing a free exercise program, you have to be personally motivated to stick with it. Make whatever program you choose part of your healthy lifestyle. As with any exercise program, before starting, consult your doctor.

Warrior X-Fit

Warrior X-Fit is a kickboxing conditioning program that you can join for free online. For each day of the month, the website has a workout video featuring a series of six exercises that you can perform in your home or at a gym. The entire workout takes about 20 minutes, but beginners can start losing weight and burning fat by just doing the first two exercises and working up to the full workout. When you record your data on the site, it tracks your progress, and you can earn martial-arts-themed-belt ranks, training to become black belt fit. The website features include music that plays during your workout sessions, comprehensive video instructions, daily motivational quotes and a fitness blog.

DailyBurn

Another free online weight loss program is DailyBurn. The website features numerous instructional exercise videos so that you can try exercises and customize your own workout routine. The website allows you to record your daily workout results and keep track of your progress. To help you reach your exercise and nutrition goals, search for or invite friends to join you. Having a couple of workout buddies can be a great way to remain focused on reaching your goals, especially when you aren't relying on a personal trainer to push you to succeed. The DailyBurn website also features a nutritional database so that users can track their daily dietary intake. For iPhone users, there is an app available so that you can access your account while traveling or on the go.

Free Exercise DVDs

Visit your library or check your library's catalog online to find out what exercise DVDs they may have available to borrow. Many libraries have a wide selection, including dance exercise DVDs. If you aren't sure what type of workout is the best fit for you, borrow several different DVDs and try them all until you find something that you enjoy doing a couple times each week. Just remember to return them on time to avoid paying overdue fines.
