Cleansing and detoxing programs are popular items today. There are many types of detox from system cleanses like liver and colon cleanses to specific cleanses like parasites and inflammation. Most use natural ingredients with lemon juice, olive oil and plenty of water. Liver cleanses are supposed to flush stones from the gallbladder and relieve sluggish intestinal problems.
Epsom Salt
Epsom salt is a mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate that has many uses from the garden to home and in health. Magnesium regulates enzymes and makes insulin more effective while improving oxygen use in the body. Sulfates help flush toxins from the body's organs and helps prevent migraines. Ingesting Epsom salt is safe and has U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval as a laxative. Liver cleanses use Epsom salt for the toxin flush and enzyme regulation.
Milk Thistle
Milk thistle, or Silybum marianum, protects the liver and helps improve its function. The active component of milk thistle is called silymarin and comes from the seeds. It is in clinical trials for its possible liver function help. Side effects have been diarrhea, bloating and laxative effects. Those with ragweed allergies may be allergic to milk thistle. Those individuals that have cirrhosis of the liver should not attempt taking milk thistle.
Dandelion
Dandelion, or Taraxacum offinale, has a good source of vitamin A and you can eat its greens like salad. It has been a folklore liver and kidney remedy as well as for skin and digestive issues. It is used to get rid of gallbladder and liver waste. Side effects are rare and are usually diarrhea and upset stomach. Allergic reactions are possible. Those with gallbladder disease or bile duct blockage should refrain from using dandelion. There hasn't been compelling studies to prove the significance of dandelion despite its widespread use in liver cleanses.
