According to the American Psychiatric Association, up to five percent of the population suffers from clinical levels of anxiety at some point in their life. If you are suffering from symptoms of anxiety and have insurance, first go to the insurance website, look for mental health services, and then select a psychologist (Ph. D.) or psychiatrist (M.D.) who includes anxiety disorders under the areas of that they treat. Make sure to call your insurance company and get authorization for mental health services prior to beginning treatment. If you do not have insurance, there are still many resources available. In addition to those listed in this article, the mental health or counseling center at the university or college in your area will often have information on free or low cost treatment options.

APA Psychology Help: Articles about Anxiety

The American Psychological Association has information and articles related to a number of mental health issues. Articles on anxiety include topics such as which therapies work best for anxiety treatment, symptoms of anxiety, and articles related to current events, trauma, and other pertinent issues of concern. This resource also provides information on therapists in your local area, mental health and emotional wellness literature and family relationships.

Anxiety Disorders Association of America

Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA) has a comprehensive website with information about different types of anxiety disorders including social anxiety, GAD, and phobias. They also provide information on how to find help, support, and treatment. The resources on this website is organized in several helpful ways. Under the "Living with Anxiety" tab, the information is organized via different groups, such as moms, college students, or older individuals. Resources for professionals are available as well and include podcasts, journal subscriptions, and conference information.

National Institutes of Mental Health

The National Insititute of Mental Health offers several resources for anxiety sufferers. Their Health Topic section on Anxiety Disorders details the difference between different kinds of anxiety symptoms, treatment options, and wehre to obtain help in your area. They also provide links to information on medication for anxiety and coping with traumatic events. Lastly, individuals with anxiety can sign up to be considered for participation in clinical trials of anxiety medication and research on new treatment modalities for anxiety.
