In-line skating is similar to ice skating. Of course, the surfaces are a bit different, but the basic movements are the same in both activities. If you're a hockey player, you may want to convert your ice hockey skates to in-line skates for the off season so you can practice outdoors if no rink is available.

Step 1

Secure the hockey skate in an upside-down position using the vise.

Step 2

Remove all screws on the blade frame that are holding the blade to the bottom of the skate. Any bolts in the frame should be loosened and removed with a wrench. When all the screws are removed, take the blade frame away from the skate boot.

Step 3

Mark the center of the heel and balls of the feet using the pen while the boot is still in the vise. You can use a tape measure to assist with this step.

Step 4

Put the in-line skate plate on the boot so it lines up with the marks. Make sure the distance between the front of the skate plate and the toe is the same as the distance from the back of the skate plate to the heel. Mark on the skate plate where the screw holes should be made.

Step 5

Remove the skate plate, then drill holes about 1/2-inch deep through the boot.

Step 6

Put the skate plate on the bottom of the boot and secure it with the screws that you removed from the ice skate blade. Use washers to ensure all the screws are secured.

Step 7

Place all bearings and wheels onto the skate plate and secure them with the Allen wrench. Before using the skates, make sure that all the wheels are secured and that the skate plate is securely fastened.
