1. Snack Frequently
An empty stomach can increase the feeling of nausea that accompanies pregnancy. Keeping some whole-wheat crackers or rice cakes and nibbling on them before getting out of bed in the morning can help alleviate morning sickness. Also, maintaining a small amount of food in the stomach throughout the day can reduce nausea. Six small meals rather than three large ones will keep blood sugar levels up, give you more energy and reduce the onset of nausea. Carry snacks with you, and choose foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as bread and crackers, that digest more quickly.
2. Try Some Ginger
Ginger, a common spice used in cooking throughout the world, has many medicinal properties, including treating nausea and morning sickness. One study shows that 75 percent of pregnant women who took ginger regularly were completely relieved from their symptoms of morning sickness. Ginger is available in capsule form at health food stores. Take it daily, even without symptoms, to reduce the likelihood of morning sickness. Follow the recommended dosage and consult your doctor.
If you already feel nauseated, drink fresh ginger grated into hot water and sip it like a tea. Ginger biscuits, crystallized ginger or ginger ale are also good alternatives that can help alleviate the feeling of nausea.
3. Get Some Sleep
Fatigue is common during pregnancy, as your body undergoes changes in hormone levels. Since fatigue and stress can intensify morning sickness, naps are a great way to not only relax you but also fend off morning sickness. If you are feeling tired and have the opportunity, lay down for 10 to 20 minutes. Even if you can't fall asleep, simply closing your eyes will induce a state of relaxation, which decreases stress in the body and ultimately makes you feel better.
4. Exercise Regularly
Not only does exercise reduces stress, it may prevent morning sickness. Studies have shown that women who exercise regularly are less likely to experience nausea associated with pregnancy. Always consult a doctor before partaking in any exercise.
