Sauna suits are specially-designed suits that trap heat and moisture and encourage sweating. They are an alternative to sitting in a sauna room for extended periods since they can be worn during exercise. However, sauna suits are not effective tools for losing weight consistently. They drop weight by reducing your body's water content, but this can be dangerous when done for a prolonged period of time. Still, these suits are used frequently to drop a few pounds quickly, particularly by wrestlers looking to drop weight in an afternoon to make the cut for their weight class. In this scenario, a sauna suit can be easy to use and effective.
Step 1
Put on the pants and top portions of the sauna suit, or slip on the entire suit if it is a one-piece. With two-piece suits, make sure the top is tucked into the pants portion to prevent heat and moisture from escaping. What clothing you wear underneath the suit is up to your personal preference, but it's worth considering that these garments will be thoroughly soaked with sweat after you exercise.
Step 2
Go through your workout process. The best methods of exercise are ones that keep your heart rate elevated for the duration of the workout, such as jogging, running or biking. This will generate the most heat and make the sauna suit more effective. Using a sauna suit during exercises that don't induce high levels of sweating will still increase the amount you perspire, but it won't maximize the benefit of the sauna suit.
Step 3
Work out for up to 30 minutes, then remove the sauna suit. Exercise for periods beyond 30 minutes can be dangerous--check with your coach, trainer or doctor if you want to use a sauna suit beyond this period of time.
