Unwanted body hair can make you feel self-conscious about certain parts of your body. There are numerous causes of unwanted body hair growth, with the most common being genetics, medications, genetics and stress.
Step 1
Undergo photoepilation. This common dermatological procedure is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is carried out by a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon. It works by bombarding your hair follicles with pulses of light, thereby destroying them so that hair growth is permanently stopped. You will be asked to return a few more times to ensure that the results are permanent.
Step 2
Ask your physician about a prescription for eflornithine HCl. This prescription cream stops hair growth by blocking an enzyme in your hair follicle called ornithine decarboxylase (ODC), which the hair follicles need for hair to grow. Eflornithine HCl cream doesn't work instantly; rather, you should see improvements in about three to four months.
Step 3
Consult a dermatologist about undergoing electrolysis. The dermatologist will carefully insert a fine metal probe into your hair follicles. An electrical current is then introduced to dissolve the hair follicles and any loosened hair is manually removed by hand or with the use of tweezers. You will be asked to return once or twice a year for more treatments to permanently eliminate hair growth. You can also undergo electrolysis at a health spa or beauty salon, but they will be less skilled and unprepared to treat you if any skin irritations develop.
