Hidden deep inside every woman's closet is a pair of skinny jeans. If you have been longing to get into these jeans again but your big thighs are blocking the way, it's time to slim your thighs. While there is no magical way to thinner thighs, there are a number of things you can do to tone and tighten big thighs.
Yoga
According to the American Council on Exercise, more than 11 million people in the United States perform yoga. Yoga helps firm up soft spots and tighten thighs by combining breathing, stretching, strength-building and meditation exercises. This ancient favorite will help you strengthen and define the underlying muscles in your thighs to slim and tone any excess flab. Yoga has several styles, including pranayama yoga or mantra yoga for meditation, and ashtanga or power yoga, which is more vigorous. Hold each of the poses in yoga for three to five long breaths (30 seconds) before relaxing in order to optimize your muscles.
Strength Training
Include a weight-training routine in your fitness regime in order to balance and tone upper and lower body. An intense muscle workout should leave your muscles fatigued after each set. You should use compound movements that work out multiple muscle sets, targeting your butt, thighs and quads in order to slim the entire upper-leg area. To tone your legs and thighs, perform a higher amount of repetitions with less weight.
Jump Start Your Metabolism
According to the Jan. 17, 2003, issue of the American Journal of Epidimeology, the increase in obesity rates can be linked with skipping breakfast. Breakfast kick-starts the metabolism. Without it, your metabolism will slow down to conserve energy. Add protein to your diet each day. Protein builds muscle mass, which burns more calories than fat. According to Women's Health Magazine, every person should get about 30g of protein daily, equaling about one 4 oz. chicken breast. Additionally, protein will keep you feeling full longer so you can stay away from those extra calories that go right to your thighs.
Kickboxing for Cardio
When trying to slim big thighs, your biggest concern will be with melting fat. According to the American Council on Exercise, you can burn between 350 to 450 calories an hour with kickboxing. Kickboxing is a high-impact cardio workout that uses the entire body to burn calories fast. By kicking and punching, you will tone your legs and butt, developing your muscles and getting rid of flab. This intense-cardio workout will keep your heart rate elevated to burn the maximum fat.
Plyometrics
Plyometrics is a form of jumping exercises that are often used by professional athletes. It not only burns fat through cardio, it also builds muscle in the legs and thighs through explosive movements. According to the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, plyometrics is as effective as weight training for enhancing performance. Because you are using your legs to move from static (still) to dynamic (explosive) movements, it shocks your leg and thigh muscles, helping you see fast results.
