The sight of a pimple or a flaky scalp can quickly put a spin on your daily routine. The time that may typically be reserved for a quick cleanse and breakfast gets spent dashing to the drugstore for acne gel or dandruff shampoo. Save yourself some time and whip up some home remedies to take care of pimples and dandruff.
Chocolate Oatmeal Mask for Acne
A chocolate and oatmeal mask will deeply cleanse your pores, without leaving your skin stripped like alcohol-based cleansers can. The oatmeal exfoliates to open pores and bring impurities to the surface, while the chocolate contains balancing antioxidants. Melt 2 tablespoons of chocolate in a pan and pour it into a bowl with 1 ounce of oatmeal, 1/4 cup of heavy cream, 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese and 1 tablespoon of honey. Mix them together with a spoon and massage a thick layer into your skin, using upward circular motions. Allow it to rest on your face for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
Aspirin Face Mask for Acne
Aspirin masks are ideal for treating current breakouts, as well as remaining redness from inactive spots. Crush two tablets of aspirin in a bowl and mix in 2 tablespoons of water. Smooth the mask over clean skin and allow it to sink in for 20 minutes. Dampen a clean cloth with warm water and gently wipe away the paste for added exfoliation. Use the mask as soon as you notice a breakout to soothe inflammation and encourage healing.
Baking Soda for Dandruff
Baking soda is less abrasive than regular shampoos. It cleanses the scalp and hair while allowing natural oil production to resume to eliminate dandruff. Massage a teaspoon of baking soda into your scalp when wet, concentrating on the crown of your head. Rinse it out with warm water and repeat once more if you have naturally oily hair. Repeat twice a week until dandruff is gone, and use it once a week afterward to keep dandruff at bay.
Coconut Oil for Dandruff
Coconut oil provides dandruff with the moisture it needs in order to stop flaking. The intensely hydrating natural product soothes the scalp and adds shine to hair in the process. Coat your scalp in a thick layer of extra-virgin coconut oil, then cover your hair with a shower cap. Leave the treatment on over night and rinse it out in the morning. Fine hair may require a dime-size amount of mild shampoo in order to remove any remaining buildup. Repeat once a week until dandruff is eliminated.
