More Natural Cures for Yeast Infections

Home remedies for vaginal yeast infections come a dime a dozen. While many yeast infections call for prescription treatments, you body does have the ability to clear vaginal yeast infections on its own. That, combined with the lack of research on natural methods makes it difficult to discern what remedies work and what remedies supply relief by coincidence.

Candida Diet

The foods we eat play a significant role in our health and well being, so on the surface, it makes sense that avoiding foods which fuel yeast, such as white flour and white sugar will make us feel better. Unfortunately, according to experts at the Mayo Clinic, candida cleanses and diet plans haven't proven to be a worthwhile treatment for yeast infections. Instead, they work by changing our diets to include more nutrient dense foods, which is likely to make anyone feel better. There is one dietary link to yeast. According to the American Diabetes Association, people who don't have their blood sugar under control are more likely to suffer vaginal yeast infections. High blood glucose levels provide the perfect environment for yeast to thrive.

According to Dr. Sandhya Pruthi writing for the Mayo Clinic, suppositories of Lactobacillus acidophilus help clear yeast infection symptoms. Dr. Pruthi points out that taking Lactobacillus acidophilus orally, such as eating yogurt or taking tablets, have not shown to be effective. Probiotic suppositories are available at health food stores.

Natural Antifungals

While more testing needs done to prove the efficacy of this treatment, you might find relief of symptoms, especially itching. Garlic is another effective ingredient used in yeast infection treatments, according to "The Green Pharmacy Handbook." It has both anti-fungal and antibiotic properties. The book also recommends sage tea taken as a douche to treat candida symptoms. You can combine this tea with tea treat oil for a stronger treatment.
